The Long, Winding Road to a Great SAT or ACT Score
Parents frequently want to know when their teenager should begin preparing for the SAT or ACT. My staff and I recommend a twelve-week prep cycle, assuming that the child is in good academic standing with at least a 3.4 GPA.
If a student has lower than that, it generally indicates that remediation will be needed to firm up their foundational skills that will be tested. Learn more about test prep cycles in this quick explanation video.
A word to the wise about SAT and ACT prep: there are many franchised classes offered to parents for students to get ready for this important test.Studies have proven again and again, however, that students working one-on-one with a tutor on their particular needs increases the point gains exponentially. Valley Prep Tutoring in Los Angeles provides Ivy League support via Skype to families anywhere in the US, and our students average 250 points on the SAT and 5 points on the ACT after a 12-week prep cycle.
